Algemene informatie
Mycobacterium avium Complex (MAC) refers to a range of different mycobacteria species, which are capable of causing infection and diseases in a wide array of animals. Dogs are mostly resistant to MAC infection. However, certain lineages of (Miniature) Schauzers show increased vulnerability to developing these infections. Research has shown this susceptibility to be caused by a recessive mutation to the gene CARD9.
Klinische eigenschappen
Dogs affected by the mutation analysed in this test may develop MAC infections.
Symptoms of MAC infection can include anorexia, lethargy, diarrhea, lameness, fever, and anemia. Precise symptoms are dependant on the location and severity of the infection. MAC infections can be severe and contagious, and are likely to lead to death or require euthanasia on humane and safety grounds.
