Algemene informatie
Polydactyly, also known as Preaxial Polydactyly (PPD) is a developmental abnormality in dogs that causes the growth of extra toes on the hind legs. Specifically, polydactyly restores the first toe that was lost over the course of the evolution of the wolf, giving affected dogs a fifth toe known as a “dewclaw”. It can be caused by a dominant mutation to the gene LMBR1.
